The University of Louisville has announced the establishment of an endowed chair in Oncology Social Work.The chair is named for local cancer specialist Dr. Renato LaRocca.He says oncology social workers trained in the program willl serve as advocates for cancer patients."She serves as a guide, navigating a patient through governement programs, helping them to understand the trials and tribulations of therapy, financial issues, home support, home nursing and whatnot. Also, on the spiritual plane, theyhelp by engaging with the family, assessing the home situation, family therapy and support groups," LaRocca said.The chair will be established in U of L's Kent School of Social Work.
