New School Year Brings Some Changes

School starts Thursday, and Jefferson County Public Schools officials say there may be more students enrolled this year than in the last thirty years.Superintendent Sheldon Berman says a new tool this year, called Parent Portal, will allow parents to be more involved in their child’s education.“Parents can monitor their children very effectively," says Berman. "They can monitor daily grades, attendance, report cards, newsletters, announcements, and if a teacher uses the portal gradebook, parents can actually access homework information.”Berman says notices will be sent to parents in September, telling them about Parent Portal and how it works.Other changes this year include a new assignment plan for elementary students and some changes to the Student Code of Conduct.
