Wednesday Afternoon Flood Update

Summer school classes will resume at the University of Louisville's Belknap and Health Sciences campus Thursday, but many classes are being moved because of flood damage in some buildings.     Visit www.louisville.edu for details. Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital (including the Emergency Department) and the Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital Surgery Center (including all outpatient procedures) will be closed until futher notice.   The Wound Care Center and outpatient rehab remain open.  Physician offices are also open in the various medical office buildings.The main branch of the Louisville Free Public Library will remain closed through the end of the week. The library sustained major water damage in its basement.Jefferson County Public Schools officials say water damage at several dozen schools throughout the distict will be repaired in time for the start of fall classes on August 13.Louisville Metro Government officials have begun a damage assessment to be submitted to federal officials for a disaster declaration.As of 10:00am Wednesday, about 2000 Louisville Gas and Electric Company customers and 500 Kentucky Utilities customers were still without power.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
