Sewers Functioning, But Overloaded

Metropolitan Sewer District Director Bud Schardein says today's flooding is not due to improperly functioning drainage equipment.Schardein says the ground has been saturated from a fairly wet summer and this morning's rainfall overloaded the system."We've had no power fails through our telemetry system and that's automated completely," he says. "All of our plants are operating properly and that's what I want to emphasize to folks. If there were a switch I could turn, I would turn it. We've just had entirely too much rain in too short a period of time."Schardein says extra crews have been called in to help ease flooding. Many streets remain impassible.
