Zoning Board to Reconsider Homeless Shelter Decision

The Louisville Metro Board of Zoning and Adjustment decided today it will reconsider an earlier decision that required Metro Council action before Wayside Christian Mission could move its women and families shelter. The homeless shelter has been searching for a new location since it sold its East Market property.  It has to be moved by August of next year.Wayside Chief Operating Officer Nina Moseley says the shelter was sidetracked on July 20th, when the zoning board stated it couldn’t move until the council updated the city’s land development code.“The interpretation when it got through the planning and design committee was that no one could move anywhere until the land development code had been upgraded to include homeless shelters and determined where those homeless shelters could be located," says Moseley. "So the July 20th decision was pretty strapping on all the shelters.”But today, the board said it would reconsider that opinion on August 17th.Wayside is trying to move into the former Hotel Louisville property at Second and Broadway that it purchased in a foreclosure auction in late May for ten-million dollars.
