Parks Effort Gets $5 Million Donation

The effort to expand Louisville’s park system along the Floyd’s Fork corridor in eastern Jefferson County is getting another financial boost. The James Graham Brown Foundation is donating $5 million to the 21st Century Parks initiative, which is chaired by Dan Jones.                                               He says the grant brings the total amount of money raised for the effort to $82 million, much of which has been used to purchase land along the corridor.

"We are approaching almost four thousand acres in park land that has all been preserved in perpetuity for public use and access,"  Jones said during a press conference at the Fisherville Canoe Launch.Jones says ground will be broken next year on a major segment of the system, called The Fork, which will include more than 20 miles of continuous trails along Floyd’s Fork Creek.
