Blue Lights Across the Bluegrass Starts Today

Thirty-seven Kentucky counties are getting increased highway patrols starting today and lasting through the end of this month. The counties have been targeted by the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety because they have had four or more highway fatalities this year.Division of Highway Safety Programs Director Boyd Sigler says they’re seeing an increase in highway deaths this year, and they want to curb that.“The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety is providing overtime grant funding for agencies within these 37 counties to put out more enforcement, stepped up enforcement, and higher visibility enforcement in those particular areas," says Sigler.Kentucky leads the state with more then twenty highway fatalities so far this year. Warren and Fayette counties have more than ten.The increased enforcement program is called Blue Lights Across the Bluegrass, and uses about $250,000 in federal grant money.
