Abramson Apologizes For Newspaper Remarks

Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson has issued an apology to anyone who was offended by remarks he made to a West Virginia newspaper last week regarding the 2003 city-county merger.Abramson told the Charleston Gazette that prior to merger, the old city of Louisville was getting, "poorer, blacker and older."The mayor says he was only trying to describe the city's demographic trends before merger and didn't intend any offense.    He says he went on to point out in the interview that Louisville Metro is a stronger community because of its diversity. Charleston, West Virginia is considering a merger with its county government.The complete 45 minute interview can be heard here.
