Salvation Army Could Shutter Boys and Girls Club

The Louisville Area Command of the Salvation Army may have to shutter one of its Boys and Girls Clubs in the coming months.Commander Major Keath Biggers says the agency is running a deficit of about $150,000 for the Boys and Girls Clubs because of a severe decline in grants from government sources. The clubs offer various programs for hundreds of Louisville-area children. He says those sources have tight budgets, and the Salvation Army hasn’t been making the cut.“When the economy was humming along, the funding was there," says Biggers, "but now, everyone is experiencing financial challenges and we just fell victim to these tough economic times.”Biggers says the Salvation Army has a few fundraising opportunities coming up: a previously scheduled golf tournament and a telethon later this week, specifically to raise money for the Boys and Girls Clubs.
