Rubbertown residents filed a class action suit against the company because of its chemical plant emissions. Zeon offered a settlement of around $400 to compensate the plant’s 14,000 neighboring residents. But at issue before Judge Heyburn was whether or not accepting Zeon’s offer could unfairly strip residents of their right to sue the company in the future. Heyburn said the nominal amount of the settlement did raise a question of the value of what residents might be giving up. Zeon lawyers urged the judge to let residents decide for themselves. Residents will most likely be given an extra 30 days to consider their options.
