A new statewide discount prescription drug card is now available for use in Kentucky. It's called the Kentucky Rx Card and is part of a larger program that's up and running in more than two dozen other states.Louisville Metro Councilwoman Vicki Welch says the card is free and available to everyone in Kentucky, but will be most useful to the uninsured and under-insured, who could save up to 75% on some drugs.Welch says the program does not involve any taxpayer money."It's done on a bulk buying basis, all over our nation. We already have 30 states in the program, we already have 30 million people in the program. So you see what kind of buying base it is).Welch says she worked to get the program launched in Kentucky after hearing about it at a National League of Cities conference.More than 800 Kentucky pharmacies are participating in the program.
