Happenstance has a turned a routine service trip for University of Louisville medical students into a crash course in emergency care.Four students were en route to Honduras this week when a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Central American nation. Rick Sweet's son Alex is one of the students on the trip. Sweet says the students were planning to do medical work in the city of El Progreso, but the quake has changed the nature of the mission."One of them works in surgery down at the hospital in El Progreso, one will work in obstetrics, one is on pediatric internal medicine rotation and Alex is going to be working in an emergency room down there," he says.The death toll from Thursday's earthquake reached 56 on Friday.
