The Kentucky Humane Society opens its new Pet Food Bank tomorrow. KHS says the bank is for families who are struggling to buy food for their pets. Spokesperson Michelle Ray says the recession affects pets too, but they don’t want families to have to give up their animals. “We realize that many families have been affected by the current economic climate, and in turn, pets are also feeling the pinch too," says Ray, "so we wanted to introduce a program so people wouldn’t have to consider surrendering their dog or cat due to lack of food.”Ray says they’ve seen a 14% increase in the number of relinquished pets over the last six or seven months. The pet food bank will be open Saturday from noon to four at the KHS main campus on Steedly Drive.
