The annual Abbey Road on the River Beatles music festival is underway along Louisville's Belvedere and other downtown sites. Some 25,000 people are expected for the event, which includes live performances by more than 50 Beatle tribute bands from around the world. The festival will also include an exhibit of some newly-discovered photos of the Beatles and Rolling Stones taken during their U.S. tours in the 1960s. It's called "The British are Coming."The photos are being shown by the Not Fade Away Gallery of New York City. Curator Larry Marion says the shots were taken by the bands' tour manager, Bob Bonis and brought to his attention by Bonis's son."The negatives were in near-perfect condition. They had been stored properly in glassine envelopes in a moisture-free drawer for forty-something years," Marion said.Marion says the photos are rare because of the access Bonis had to the bands' inner circle.More information about the festival is available here.More information about the photos is available here.
