The Clifton, Butchertown and Crescent Hill neighborhoods in Louisville have a new fire station serving them. Engine 21 is now open on Spring Street at Story Avenue. It will replace a more than century-old firehouse on Frankfort Avenue at Pope Street.Several neighborhood associations were involved in the planning process, which involved sometimes tough negotiations with Louisville Metro Government officials. But Mike O’Leary with the Clifton Community Center says the result is something everyone can be proud of.“Folks will not remember how the Spring Street fire station came in Butchertown came about, because we will feel safe and secure in our homes," says O'Leary.Another century-old firehouse was recently replaced in Portland, and a third new firehouse is in the design phase for the Beechmont neighborhood.
