From Alan Lytle, Kentucky Public Radio/WUKY, LexingtonThe University of Kentucky’s Applied Energy Research Center is forming a consortium with utility companies and government agencies for a $24 million project that will study ways to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from coal-fired power plants. UK President Lee Todd says this is the kind of problem the state’s flagship university should be working to solve."We've got to find some area of uniqueness, something you have that Is different that other folks. We have energy in Kentucky, we have coal under the ground and if we can solve some of the issues associated with that we can release a real problem that is haunting this state and this world now.Officials say the project is expected to last ten years.
