Nominations are now being accepted for Kentucky Teacher of the Year. The deadline for nominations is May 15th. Kentucky Department of Education spokesperson Lisa Gross anyone can nominate a teacher, and in the last few years the process has been easier because it’s available online. She says once the nominations are in, a panel of education professionals chooses the semi-finalists.“We try to have a wide range of folks on that committee who can look at what a teacher is doing and say yes, this is good, yes, this is innovative, yes, this teacher does the things we would like to see in a Teacher of the Year," Gross says.Judging will take place in September. At the end of the process, 24 teachers in Kentucky will be awarded cash prizes, ranging from 500-dollars, to ten-thousand dollars for the Teacher of the Year.
