UPS Continues Talks With Union

UPS and its Louisville-based pilots union are in negotiations to cut tens of millions of dollars from the company budget. The struggling economy has caused a reduction in the number of packages UPS is shipping, and that's reduced the need for pilots. Rather than furloughing some 300 union members, UPS spokesperson Mike Mangeot says the company is in negotiations with pilots to find other ways to cut costs."Wage and pension freezes similar to what our management support teams have already agreed to. They have countered with some voluntary leave options, for example, extended leaves of absences those sorts of things," says Mangeot. "So we're going back and forth trying to determine if there's a win-win out there."Mangeot says UPS would like to find a compromise as soon as possible. Union officials declined to comment, but they say negotiations will continue.
