The Louisville Convention and Visitors Bureau is launching a new campaign to attract visitors Saturday. The bureau has leased a bus and will visit nine cities in Kentucky and four neighboring states. At each stop, employees and corporate partners will distribute prizes and coupons in hopes of attracting tourists to Louisville."We hope to stimulate people by getting a great package in their hands
– offering them incentives to come to the city and we have our fingers crossed," says Bureau President Jim Wood. "We're trying to be ambitious and aggressive with our campaigns."The tour will cost about $139,000. Bureau President Jim Wood says it's a prudent use of funds. He hopes to recoup the tour's expenses and more through the tourism dollars it generates.
"Our budget's been cut $700,000 already this year," he says. "It's going to a million and a half next fiscal year because of travel being down. But we are charged and we are licensed through our charter to do everything we can. We spend all of our dollars."Wood says national reports have advised that automobile tourism will increase this summer, with gas prices lower than they were last year.
