Relatively recently in human history, nature was something to be conquered, tamed, or survived. With the Industrial Revolution came a boom in mining, forest clearing, and pollution, and it soon became clear that the environment was now under threat from humans - not the other way around. Since then, naturalists, writers, activists and others have taken different approaches toward environmentalism, with mixed results. Friday we'll learn about the history of the environmental movement, the progress it's made, and the challenges our natural world may face in the future.
