A local campaign to send care packages to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan does not have enough money for postage to ship all the items. In 2007 and 2008, the "Doing Our Part" campaign collected enough hygiene products and nonperishable food to put together and send about 400 care packages to soldiers abroad. This year, the items have been donated, but the drive has only collected enough money to send about 150 packages.Louisville Metro Councilwoman Madonna Flood's office organizes the drive. She says it's also been difficult meeting the demand for packages this year."I can't tell you how many calls that I have received from people who are wanting to add their grandson or their husband or brother on the list to get boxes," she says. "This is the first year we've had individuals call in, as many as there are now, asking about a possible donation to their loved one."The drive runs through the end of March.
