Oaks Day To Include Breast Cancer Research Fundraising

Churchill Downs has announced it will raise money for breast cancer research in conjunction with the running of the 135th Kentucky Oaks. The track says it will donate at least 100-thousand dollars to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization, with the exact amount to be determined by Oaks Day attendance.   Churchill Downs CEO Bob Evans says it's part of a larger plan to widen the appeal of Oaks Day."And that is to consider Oaks Day the day we put ladies first at Churchill Downs and focus on the entertainment and activities and.....causes that are important to women. Not to mention the fact that the Oaks is a race for three year old fillies," Evans said.Evans also announced the Bravo cable network will also produce a live, one-hour special devoted to Oaks Day.    Bravo is a sister company of NBC, which will telecast the Kentucky Derby. The 135th Kentucky Oaks will be run Friday, May 1.
