Girl Scouts To Send Cookies To Soldiers

The Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana are accepting donations to help send cookies to American soldiers.Anyone who purchases cookies from a local Girl Scout troop can choose to buy extra boxes that will be shipped to soldiers who are serving overseas.Individual troops have been sending cookies to soldiers for years, but this is the first time the council has organized a program to that effect. The council hopes to send five thousand boxes of cookies to troops in the next few months. That's despite reports from other areas that cookie sales are declining. Council president Cynthia Weller says she hasn't seen a drop in the Louisville area."I think people know they're buying cookies for a good cause and we only have cookies once a year," she says. "You have to get cookies now or your don't get them. People love the cookies."Weller says the final destination of the cookies hasn't been determined, but they will most likely go to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
