Louisville Metro Government will hold a public hearing later this week for input on how to best spend nearly $7 million in federal funds aimed at improving neighborhoods with high rates of foreclosure.Spokesperson Kerri Richardson with the mayor's office says officials have identified five areas of Louisville to share the money---Newburg, Shawnee, Portland, Park du Valle and Smoketown-Shelby Park---but are looking for more information."What we need is the neighbors' help in finding those particular streets or blocks or stretches of road that are particularly blighted. We want to concetrate that money in a small area to make a big difference instead of spreading the money out all over and just making changes throughout our neighborhoods," she said.Richardson says the money won't be used to help people with rent or mortgage payments.The public hearing will be held Saturday at the Urban League on West Broadway. Suggestions can also be submitted to the Metro Housing Department.
