Every1Reads Could See Cuts

The community literacy program for Louisville public school students won’t get new curriculum under budget cuts proposed earlier this week by the Jefferson County school superintendent. Sheldon Berman’s budget proposal for next year includes a three-point-seven million dollar reduction for the Every1Reads program.The program is also run by Greater Louisville Inc., and Eileen Pickett with GLI says the cut is not as bad as it sounds."Curriculum was developed and JCPS has just completed an independent consultant study on that curriculum and the recommendation came back that they stay with the original curriculum, with some tweaks to some of the intervention," says Pickett, "so as I understand it, we’re going to be in good shape going forward."Berman’s proposed cuts also eliminate funding for the year-five assessment of how well the program is working.
