CPE Selects New President

From Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeighThe former chancellor of the New York State University System is the new president of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education.                   After a national search that drew 150 applicants, the Council on Postsecondary Education unanimously chose 61-year old Robert King as its new president. King, who currently chairs a charitable foundation in Arizona, officially begins work April 1st at a salary of 360-thousand dollars a year."What I’ve discovered in the couple of years I’ve been away from higher ed is how much I miss it and how much I love what it can do for our country," says King, "and if I can be a small part of that, that’s what I’d like to commit the balance of my working life to, and so I’m thrilled to be here."King replaces former president Thomas Layzell, who retired in September 2007.Earlier this year, interim president Brad Cowgill resigned under pressure, after Governor Beshear complained he was hired without a legally required nationwide search.
