Beshear Hopes to Boost K-CHIP Enrollment

Governor Steve Beshear is trying to boost enrollment in the Kentucky Children’s Health Insurance Program, or K-CHIP.K-CHIP provides health insurance to children whose family income is below 200-percent of the federal poverty level. That’s just over 42-thousand dollars a year for a family of four.Governor Beshear says 67-thousand Kentucky children are eligible for the program and they need to be identified and enrolled."To boost the number of kids enrolled in K-CHIP, we removed the face-to-face interview, to remove that barrier to applying," says Beshear.Beshear says the state also hired more support staff, is providing more training and has started a website, kidshealth.ky.gov where parents can download K-CHIP enrollment applications. Also pitching in to assist with the enrollment process is the United Way of Kentucky.
