300 USPS Collection Boxes to be Removed in Louisville

Over the next few weeks, the U.S. Postal Service will remove about 300 collection boxes throughout Louisville.Louisville Postmaster Steve Gregory says officials conducted a survey of the 900 or so blue mailboxes throughout the community. He says the ones slated for removal were receiving fewer than 25 pieces of mail a day, most of them fewer than five pieces."People just don’t use them," says Gregory, "we’re spending a lot of resources going around picking up nothing."Gregory says the postal service expects to save money on work hours and gas by removing the boxes. Currently, seventeen postal workers service the collection boxes. He says none of them will lose their jobs in the shift, they’ll just be transferred to other positions.
