The Board of Water Works has approved a 5.5% rate increase for the Louisville Water Company.The company had requested a 6.5% increase. It’s currently working on infrastructure improvements that will bring Louisville into compliance with federal drinking water standards that take effect in 2012.The water company requests a rate increase every year. The last two increases were each 6.5%. A company spokesperson says this will add just over one dollar per month to the average customer’s bill.The board also approved the water company’s $242 million budget.
