Bishops Ask Beshear To Stop Chapman Execution

Kentucky’s four Catholic bishops are asking Governor Steve Beshear to stop an execution scheduled for later this month. The bishops want Governor Beshear to commute Marco Chapman’s sentence to lifetime imprisonment. Chapman pleaded guilty to murdering two children in northern Kentucky in 2004. He has a history of drug abuse and attempted suicide and requested he be put to death for the crime.Catholic Conference of Kentucky Interim Director Reverend Patrick Delahanty says Chapman is unfit to make such a decision.“In a sense, it doesn’t matter it doesn’t matter that Mr. Chapman doesn’t share our position on human life because we think his position is the wrong position to take," he says.Chapman is scheduled for execution on November 21. Two Death Row inmates have been executed in Kentucky since capital punishment was reinstated in 1976.
