Wildfire Could Have Been Arson

Kentucky Division of Forestry officials suspect a large wildfire near the Breathitt and Owlsey County line was deliberately set.Division officials believe the fire was started in several places on Sunday night. So far this week, it’s burned nearly two thousand acres of forest in southeastern Kentucky.Division spokesperson Lynn Brammer says the blaze is made worse by the exceptionally dry weather.“They’re seeing larger flames, 8 to 10 foot," she says. "They’re seeing trees that typically don’t catch fire in the crowns to actually have some of the foliage catch fire.”Rain is forecast for the area for Friday. Brammer says that could help control the blaze, but without more rain, the forests will dry out again in one or two weeks.
