The two candidates for the 4th District seat on the Kentucky Supreme Court took part in a forum today (Thursday) in Louisville. In his remarks, Jefferson Circuit Court Chief Judge Jim Shake said judicial election debates are difficult because candidates can’t run on party platforms.“We’re non-partisan and we’re ethically prohibited from discussing issues that may come before us and it’s hard to think of almost anything that couldn’t become part of a lawsuit these day,”Shake said.Shake then touted his experience as a public defender and circuit judge. His opponent, Lisabeth Hughes Abramson was appointed to the 4th District seat last year by former Governor Ernie Fletcher, following the retirement of the late William McAnulty. She said her previous experience as an appellate judge gives her the insight to remain on the Supreme Court.I think that’s very important because it’s important to see the appellate work from the other side of the bench,” Abramson said. The forum was hosted by the Louisville Rotary Club.
