Fifty-six single-parent families will soon live at Family Scholar House, a new development near the University of Louisville.The 12-million dollar project provides affordable housing to single parents who are pursuing a college degree. Executive Director Cathe Dykstra says single parents have more challenges in life, but still want the same things as everyone else."A stable home, endless opportunities for their children, self-sufficiency, and an education that allows them to have a career they can be proud of and that will enable them to provide for their families," says Dykstra.Twenty-six of the parents living at Family Scholar House are taking classes at the University of Louisville, and 26 are enrolled at Jefferson Community and Technical College. The others are at Spalding, Bellarmine and Indiana University Southeast.There are 300 more families on the waiting list.
