Ramsey Says Increased Oversight Coming To U of L

University of Louisville President James Ramsey says despite setbacks, the school is making progress. In his state of the university address Tuesday, Ramsey focused on projects that will continue despite budget cuts.He also mentioned the investigation into former Education Dean Robert Felner’s handling of federal grant money.  Ramsey didn’t mention Felner by name, but said the school will work toward greater transparency.Executive Director of Admissions Jenny Sawyer said after the speech she doesn’t think Ramsey needed to go into detail about the investigation.“I don’t think it should be kept quiet," she said. "I think everybody appropriately knows the individual involved and I don’t think that was necessary. I don’t think it would have added or taken away from the speech.”Ramsey recently apologized to the Faculty Senate over the Felner situation. He said after the address that he's also been responding to complaints about the school’s grievance procedures that came up during Felner’s tenure.“That’s why we’re reviewing the grievance process," said Ramsey. "If there were those who felt they didn’t’ want to file a grievance because of potential retaliation then we need to do something different in the process.”Felner has not been charged with any crimes. Ramsey says he’s not sure when the investigation will be finished.
