A school that has trained Louisville’s deaf and hard-of-hearing children for the last sixty years is changing its name and expanding its mission. The Louisville Deaf Oral School – or LDOS – will continue its work with those who have hearing loss under a new name: The Heuser Hearing and Language Academy. Executive Director Mona McCubbin says the name change is simply a reflection of a self-inventory within the organization."Like we expect from any healthy organization, other non-profits, large and small corporations, there’s an expectation that there will periodically be an assessment," says McCubbin, "and from that assessment, there will be reorganization, restructure, reinvent themselves."McCubbin says new services at the Academy and the Heuser Hearing Institute will include more modern technology in the field, as well as more outreach into the community.
