Deal Struck For Breslin Pool

Louisville Metro Parks has struck a deal with residents of the Irish Hill community that could lead to the re-opening of the Breslin Pool, which was one of five public pools that remained closed this summer due to budget cuts.If residents can raise $100,000 by April, Metro Parks will use that money to open Breslin Pool for the summer. If not, the pool will likely be replaced by a splash park, which would cost $300,000, but wouldn’t need staffing or as much maintenance.Metro Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh’s district includes the pool. She says it may not be worth the $100,000 dollars needed annually to keep it operating.“We don’t have enough resources to be everything to everybody," she says. "So can we spend three year’s worth of operating that pool to put in a splash and spray park?”Louisville businessman Tom O’Shea has raised $40,000 thousand dollars to keep the pool open. Metro Parks has already agreed to spend $80,000 on new playground equipment for Breslin Park.
