Kentucky is looking for a new poet laureate.The Kentucky Arts Council is accepting nominations for the post through September 30.The council's Ed Lawrence says the job was created by the General Assembly for two primary reasons."One is to recognize and honor our outstanding literary artists, and the other is to put them to work to advance the literary arts throughout Kentucky," Lawrence said.Kentucky's poet laureate serves a two-year term, during which he or she travels the state to participate in literary events such as readings.There's no salary but the appointee receives a $5,000 honorarium to offset expenses.Governor Steve Beshear will appoint a new poet laureate in January. The post is currently held by Jane Gentry Vance.
