Kentucky’s Secretary of State says he’s looking out for the Commonwealth at the Republican National Convention this week.Secretary Trey Grayson is a delegate and a member of the national party’s platform committee. One of his duties is to help draft an energy platform. The Republicans’ new energy plan includes increased investments in nuclear power and so-called clean coal. Grayson says both of those could bring investment to Kentucky. The plan also supports other forms of energy, including oil and solar. Grayson says it was important for the party to draft a broad platform to appeal to the wing of conservative Republicans who aren’t pleased with John McCain’s presumptive nomination.“He kind of defaulted to be our candidate," says Grayson. "We didn’t really have any say in the process, but the voters I talked to, the Republicans I talked to around Kentucky are excited.”Grayson and the other delegates will vote for McCain’s nomination on Wednesday. McCain will give his acceptance speech on Thursday, when the convention closes.
