This is the first semester for the University of Louisville’s new Cultural Center, which replaces the school’s Multicultural Academic Enrichment Programs Office. The Cultural Center will expand the Office’s African-American outreach programs to other minorities on campus. Interim Director Michael Anthony says it will likely serve about 17% of U of L’s undergraduates.Anthony says his main goal for the center is to make students feel more comfortable and connected on campus, and that can be achieved, in part, by bringing in advisors from outside the university.“In the coming month or so, by the end of September I’d like to have identified a community advisory board that will be there to say, ‘What are the needs of the community that center could meet?’” he says. The center opened this week on the Belknap campus.
