Beshear: Some Budget Cuts Could Affect Progress in KY

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear was the speaker at the monthly Louisville Forum today, where he talked about how his is administration is dealing with a bare-bones budget. He says the state can’t afford to keep many programs at status quo. But officials have tried to cut spending in areas that were already over funded or mishandled."But I think most people out here in the state know we’re getting beyond the fat," says Beshear. "We’re getting into the bone and the muscle, and a lot of the things that we do here, like educating our kids, giving health care to our people and that is not going to help us continue the momentum that we need to continue in this state."The Governor pointed to his new program called Practical Solutions as an example of statewide belt-tightening. Transportation Cabinet officials are reviewing some 600 road projects that are in the planning stages, looking for ways to cut costs.
