Security Positions Stay Put at Social Services Office

Social services workers at Kentucky’s largest human-services office in Louisville are breathing a sigh of relief after the Cabinet for Health and Family Services reversed an earlier decision to cut security position in their building. The cabinet had planned to cut nine of eleven security jobs in its offices at the L-and-N building in downtown Louisville. The changes were set to go into effect today, but complaints from workers led officials to change their minds.All eleven security officers were on duty today.Cabinet spokesperson Vikki Franklin says officials had thought the cuts would not compromise safety because of recent security upgrades to the building."We felt that was reasonable considering the enhancements to the building that had been made," says Franklin, "for example, limiting the public access to one entry point instead of several, requiring employees to come through a door in which they swipe their ID card."Security positions at seven Neighborhood Place offices were also slated to be cut. Franklin says all the cuts would have saved the cabinet 900-thousand dollars.
