Metro Parks and Kentuckiana Crime Stoppers are joining forces to battle park vandalism. The agencies are urging anyone with information about graffiti or other damage in Metro Parks to report the crime. Information leading to an arrest will earn a $500 reward for the tipster, paid through the nonprofit Metro Parks Foundation.Metro Councilman David Tandy joined Parks and CrimeStoppers officials to announce the initiative. He says parks in his district are often the target of vandals.“Those days of lawlessness are over," says Tandy. "No more will we tolerate broken glass in our parks nor will we tolerate it in our neighborhoods.”Last week, $2,500 worth of damage was done to Shelby Park, which is in Tandy’s district. Last year, it cost Metro Parks more than 80-thousand dollars to repair and clean up vandalized facilities.
