This summer’s salmonella outbreak continues, with more than one thousand cases confirmed in 41 states. In Kentucky, only case has been reported, but Indiana Department of Health official Pam Pontones says the situation is much different in her state.“Our lab continually conducts testing on any salmonella strain that is submitted to a laboratory," says Pontones. "To date we have 16 cases that have been identified to match this particular outbreak strain.”The federal government has been investigating the cause of the outbreak. So far, tomatoes, jalapeno peppers and cilantro have all been suspected in the spread of the bacteria.
