Yarmuth, Veterans Endorse Updated GI Bill

Congressman John Yarmuth of Louisville says the enactment of a new GI Bill for the nation’s veterans is a landmark in U.S. history.President Bush signed the bill into law Monday. It’s an update of the educational assistance law passed during World War Two.Iraq war veteran Christopher Smrt is on Yarmuth’s veterans’ advisory board. He says the new law offers enhanced benefits to the thousands of military personnel who have served since the 9-11 attacks.“This was a great first step and like anything else we need to be recognizing that changes can follow and if we see future needs we’ll add that too," says Smrt.Among other things, the law will give veterans 15 years to use their educational benefit after leaving active duty.
