The local command held its first meeting on the steps of the Jefferson County Courthouse in 1883.Area Commander Major Keith Biggers says while celebrating it past, the Salvation Army is also looking to the future. They’ve recently moved into new headquarters at the old Male High School building on South Brook Street."Our area command offices have been located here now since February of this year and we’re doing some renovations to the back portion of the building, we’ll be moving our Center of Hope, our social services, homeless programs over, as soon as the renovations are completed, hopefully if not this year, then 2009," he said.Biggers says they’re also looking forward to starting construction on a new Kroc Community Center in southwest Jefferson County.
