City To Review Plans For Ouerbacher Mansion Renovations

Tuesday, Louisville Metro housing officials will review renovation proposals for the empty Ouerbacher mansion on west Jefferson Street. There are ten proposals for renovating the mansion, which is nearly 150 years old and city-owned after a foreclosure. One proposal would turn the house into a tutoring center, while another would convert it to an apartment building. Mayor’s office spokesperson Chris Poynter says there’s still a possibility the mansion could be demolished.“If we go through those ten proposals and none of them have the financial wherewithal to do it, to renovate the house or don’t have a good plan we may have to knock it down," says Poynter. "But that’s very last resort.”If a renovation plan is chosen, the house will be sold to the submitter for $1. The city will also provide $100,000 in block grant money to get the project started.
