Churchill CEO to Meet With PETA

Churchill Downs, Inc. held its annual shareholders meeting this morning in Louisville. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals – or PETA – purchased eighty shares of CDI so their representative could attend the meeting.Lindsay Rajt spoke on PETA’s behalf at the session. She asked for a private meeting with Churchill Downs CEO Bob Evans to discuss racing safety, and he agreed. Rajt says her organization is making some simple requests of the industry."While we oppose horse racing categorically, we know it’s not going to end tomorrow. So we’re trying to get some very basic reforms made," she said. Those reforms include a ban on steroids and whips, and switching race surfaces from dirt to turf or polytrack. Evans says they are looking in to those, and other, safety improvements.
