Agencies Turn Out In Force For Budget Forum

The Louisville Metro Council held its second and final public hearing on the proposed budget Wednesday night. At the first hearing two weeks ago, most of the speakers represented external agencies that would lose funding in the new budget. The same was true for last night’s meeting, but with about twice as many speakers and four times as many audience members.Among those urging the council to restore funding to external agencies was Jonathan Lowe. Lowe didn’t represent any specific organization, but said he thinks the mayor’s proposed budget is unfair to such groups.“Essentially there’s more money that’s available for the city to do its work and less of it is going to these agencies that do what I believe to be critical functions for the city to survive," he said. The full council is expected to vote on a final budget June 26th.
