Wednesday's announcement by Tiger Woods that he'll be sidelined for the rest of the golf season by knee surgery means he'll miss September's Ryder Cup competition in Louisville. The biennial Ryder Cup matches between teams of top golfers from the U.S. and Europe will be played this year at Valhalla Golf Club.Tiger Woods is the only player thus far to earn enough points to guarantee a spot on the U.S. team, captained by Paul Azinger.Azinger released a statement saying fans should focus on wishing Woods a complete recovery, and not his absence from the team.Woods replacement won't be decided for a couple of months. In an interview with WFPL last month, Azinger said it will be late summer before the entire team is in place."Eight guys make the team and that's not established until the Sunday night of the PGA Championship, which doesn't take place until August, so we've got a long way to go before the team's established" Azinger said. The Ryder Cup competition at Valhalla has been sold out since late last year.
