Wayside to Miss EDBA Deadline

The East Downtown Business Association of Louisville wants officials with the Wayside Christian Mission to agree today to a moratorium on the demolition of several buildings the mission owns on East Market Street.Wayside has plans to raze the buildings – but save the facades – so they can renovate their facilities for homeless families. The EDBA wants to save the buildings in their entirety.Wayside spokesperson Nina Moseley says today’s deadline won’t be met because their board can’t meet until Wednesday. But – she says – the larger issue in the dispute is that Wayside thought it was working within EDBA guidelines."This was quite a shock to us because we have been working off an agreement that we had with the East Downtown Business Association leadership back in 2000 and since that time there are many new people in that group. Even the president wasn’t in the group at that time," she said.Meanwhile, the EDBA is seeking landmark status for the buildings through the Metro Landmark Commission.
